ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN:

The evaluation of this campaigns aimed at improving road safety is still the exception rather than the rule. This campaign describes the some of common way to spread the awareness of road safety to introduces a number of new methods that show a great deal of promise for the purpose of road safety campaign. In order to adopt the field of road safety campaigning with such new insights into road user behaviour and behavioural modification, one should look beyond the limits of road safety campaign standards and learn from the knowledge gained in other disciplines such as the area of Engineering, Education and Enforcement and by spreading awareness on road Safety aspects, we can minimize these
casualties.

According to the world ratio India kills a decent size European nation on its roads. Last year more than 1,50,000 people died on our roads. Road transport sector in India contributes 3.64% of GDP but road accidents, according to a UN report, account for the loss of 3% of the GDP. These figure does not account for those who died in the hospital or while taking them to hospital. Studies show every hundred people died in the world, 30 are Indians.

As per the World research institute, by 2020, the death toll in road accidents every year will reach up to 2.2 million and fifty percent will be Indians it is an alarming situation for every Indian. Maharashtra with 15,000 road deaths is second worst offender after Uttar Pradesh. Every year around 1,50,000 people are killed and more than 4,50,000 people are critically injured in our country in road accidents.
Ravi Gaikwad RTO said that Road accidents is a cause of loss of precious human lives.
By adopting good practices in the area of Engineering, Education and Enforcement and by spreading awareness on road Safety aspects,we can minimize these casualties.

Ravi Gaikwad RTO and Rahul Mehta said that we have been working on areas of safety and trying to find solutions to their problems by organizing road Safety awareness programs.

This has to be a long and sustained public campaign which will require high profile endorsement of the cause. We believe that cricketer can contribute very handsomely to this movement aimed to make our roads safe and cities peaceful.

The campaign is about behavioral change of people driving or walking on
WHY ROAD SAFETY

HORN NOT OK PLEASE CAMPAIGN :

The story so far
The ambient sound levels safe for human habitation is below 55 db (decibels). Long exposure to sound levels above 55 db causes several medical conditions, especially for children and infants. Mumbai typically has sound levels ranging from 70 to 100 db for more than 12 hours in a day. This causes several medical and psychological problems like hypertension, hearing loss, insomnia, cardiovascular dysfunction, dementia, stress, and aggression. The situation is the same in most Indian cities and towns.

The main sectors of noise pollutions are Transport and construction sectors. Almost 65 % of our cities’ noise comes from the transport sector and 70% of the transport sector’s noise in our cities is contributed by honking alone. The scope of reducing the noise from construction sectors is limited as our country’s development requires a lot of construction activity. About Transport sector there is a great scope to reduce the noise pollution merely avoiding the use of horn can bring entire Mumbai and Delhi within safe sound levels, barring a few exceptions like airports and certain industrial zones such easy solutions can improve the quality of people’s lives and can make our cities peaceful.

Until now there was no single campaign run on Twitter or Facebook handles for “nohonking” or “NohornPlease”. This new campaign is launched in Mumbai and running successfully. The response to this 37-day campaign (started 5 Dec 2017) has been unexpectedly positive. Companies have supplied “No Honk” bumper stickers which can be seen widely in Mumbai; TATA Mumbai Marathon has allowed runners to run for the cause on 21 January 2018. People from various professions are supporting this campaign, like celebrities, doctors, Padma Shri and Magsaysay awardees, Social activities group, FM, and Tv channels noticed and held the shows on their respective channels. Over 80 such opinion makers have responded to an appeal by making 30-40 second video clips on their smartphones exhorting people to stop honking. These videos are uploaded for viewers under @hornnotokpl, Chapters of this campaign have started in Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, Hyderabad etc. In less than a month, there are over 30,000 followers and 3,00,000 likes, retweets, shares of the posts

All over Maharashtra over 3.5 lakh, people have pledged not to honk in various festivals, campuses etc. Over 2,00,000 no honking stickers have been affixed on vehicles and 50,000 drivers stopped and requested not to honk when they were seen honking unnecessarily while idling at red traffic lights. Over 300 school assemblies have been addressed on the issue since they reopened after the winter vacation. Bharat Ratna CNR Rao, Scientific Adviser to the PM has written supporting the campaign.

This is a low hanging fruit requiring a spread of awareness and very little effort to palpably improve the quality of urban life and end an uncivilized social trait of unnecessary honking. There is a demand for such action from all the cities, hence it can easily become a countrywide campaign. Encouraged by the public response to the campaign, Maharashtra transport department has declared that after achieving its no honking goal by April 25, 2018– International Noise Awareness Day, it will enlarge the campaign for road safety and safer driving habits.

On 21 January 2018, over 400 people from government officials ran a dream run wearing eye-catching identical T-shirts and caps. Route was mobilized by over 100 volunteers holding no honking placard & banners. All the current cricketers from the Indian team participated to promote the no honking and road Safety Campaign which was held on 24th of March 2018, there was a HORN NOT OK PLS T20 CUP played for the cause of no honking and Road Safety at Wankhede Stadium
